Now, I am assuming that you have already purchased the basics like silverware and dishes. This list includes the few extra things you’ll need to cook like a pro.
1.    The best chefs know which knives to use for what food and why to use them. You’re in college, which means that investing in a fancy set of twenty-four knives (that your roommates will most likely use to pry open cans of Chef Boyardee) is pointless. Grab a quality yet inexpensive knife set of six. They will last you throughout your college years and you won’t worry about parting with them when you graduate.
2.    Most people will tell you that a blender is the way to go when it comes to your chopping, mixing and blending needs. I disagree. Blenders are for smoothies and margaritas, not the sophisticated foods you are looking to prepare. I suggest a food processor. Don’t worry, I remember that you’re dealing with a tiny kitchen. They now make mini food processors. It will make just enough for a dinner for two and they take up a minimal amount of space.
3.    Many college kitchens these days aren’t very well stocked or have appliances that just don’t work. If this is the case in your kitchen, try hitting two birds with one stone by purchasing a toaster oven. They are convenient, easy to use, and there are some great recipes for them!
4.    Seeing as how you will be making pastas, probably using fresh vegetables, a colander will definitely come in handy. This traditional tool is used to drain, wash, and even keep fruits and vegetables fresh. And of course, every college student loves pasta and a colander is a necessary part of making delicious Italian noodles.
5.    Finally, a frequently forgotten tool, the microplane grater, should be found in every kitchen, not just college ones. You can use it for everything from grating cheese to zesting a lemon.
